Acupuncture Assessment & Treatment Plan
Based on the patient’s medical health history and physical assessment, Lin Liu or any of our practitioners will arrive at a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) treatment plan. The treatment plan is made using the theories of Yin & Yang, and the Five Elements – the two pillars of the TCM Basic Theory.
The treatment plan focuses on uncovering the root cause of problems or symptoms experienced by the patient. The root cause creates an imbalance in the body, manifesting as physical, emotional, and psychological issues.
A detailed explanation of the treatment plan, along with the customized treatment plan will be provided to the patient. Many different methods or combinations of methods including Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine, Moxibustion, Cupping, Gua Sha, or Tui Na may be used as part of the specific treatment plan.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a natural therapy that is used to improve well-being and restore the optimal flow of energy (‘Qi’). Tiny, hair-thin needles are inserted into specific points of the body, along the energy pathways called ‘meridians’ to prevent and treat a wide range of health problems. It is proven to be an effective, safe alternative and complementary to medication or even surgery for a variety of conditions and ailments.
Chinese Medicinal Herbs
The art of Chinese Herbal Medicine has been in use for over five thousand years. Thousands of years of study and practical application have gone into Traditional Chinese Medicine Herbal formulas. Herbs extracted from plants possessing powerful healing properties have been used to treat various conditions and imbalances in the body. Chinese herbal medicine uses individual (single) herbs or multiple herbs put into a formula to restore internal balance, and promote the normal, healthy function of the organs.

The information from your initial consultation with your practitioner will be used to create a customized herbal medicine formula, specifically tailored to your needs and conditions. There is a herbal formula for just about every modern disease. These formulas come in a variety of forms: pills, powder, or tea.
Lin Liu specializes in customized Chinese Herbal Medicine which is provided to you in powder form (to be taken as a tea with hot water). You may be required to take your herbal medicine for a shorter period of time (3 days up to 2 weeks), or an extended period of time depending on your conditions.
Acupressure Massage (Chinese Massage ‘Tui Na’)
Tui Na is an important part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) which follows the same basic theory as other TCM techniques: “Injury or disease causes blockages in the channels of the body. Blockages then cause pain.”
Tui Na massage uses the arms, hands, fingers, and elbows as tools for treating diseases and illnesses. Tui Na is used to protect health and build up better body immunity, so that disease can be stopped in its beginning stages, acting as a preventative medical measure without any side effects.
Tui Na uses techniques and manipulations to stimulate acupuncture points or other parts of the body surface to correct physiological imbalances of the body. The purpose of Tui Na is to disperse and smooth obstructions.
Tui Na may be applied to treat many disorders from soft tissue injuries to many other kinds of ailments such as rheumatic pain, tiredness, lack of energy and any symptoms caused by stress or emotional problems. For soft tissue injuries, Tui Na relaxes muscles and tendons and promotes smooth passage of the channels. It can also promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis.
Therapeutic Massage (RMT)
Our relaxing therapeutic massage uses Swedish massage techniques which involve manipulation of soft tissues – muscles, ligaments, tendons, connective tissues, and joint capsules. You can receive a full-body massage that soothes and relaxes all the body’s tired muscles. This process helps rid the body of stress and promotes the natural healing process. Additionally, it can help to ease stress and tension, relieve pain, and improve sleep. Therapeutic Massage can safely be used in conjunction with other treatment methods, such as Acupuncture, Cupping and/or Herbal Medicine.
Therapeutic Massage Benefits:
- Stress relief
- Headaches and Migraines
- Muscle spasms and strains
- Neck, shoulder, back stiffness
- Inflammatory conditions such as arthritis and tendonitis
- Circulatory and respiratory problems
The level of pressure applied during massage can vary from light to vigorous. Please feel free to let your practitioner know your preference and they will do their best to accommodate you and provide the most relaxing experience.
Chinese Reflexology
Reflexology is a treatment method used in Traditional Chinese Medicine to treat the whole body through the feet. Reflexology is a science which deals with the principle that there are reflex areas in the feet which correspond to all of the glands, organs, and other parts of the body. Stimulating these reflexes properly can help many health problems in a natural way, and can be a type of preventative maintenance.
Reflexology can:
- Fight Fatigue
- Reduce Stress
- Release Toxins
- Relieve Aches and Pains

Cupping
Cupping is the term applied to a technique that uses glass cups or bamboo jars as suction devices that are placed on the skin (generally the dorsal/back area). The purpose of this treatment is to disperse or break up stagnation and congestion by drawing congested blood to the surface, helping to restore the flow of Qi energy.
Cupping is often used in conjunction with Acupuncture but can also be effective as a stand-alone treatment. At Eastern Healing Center, we also offer home cupping kits which, with minimal instructions, you can perform cupping therapy in the comfort of your own home.
Ear Candling
Ear Candling has been used since ancient times to help conditions of the ear, sinus, as well as vertigo. A wax candle is placed in the ear and the gentle suction along with the application of heat helps clear out any accumulations in the ears or sinus.
Specially trained practitioners perform the treatment and the patient can simply lie down and enjoy the experience. Two separate candles are used, one for each ear. One side/one ear takes about 10-15 minutes. It is a relaxing, beneficial treatment.
Fire Dragon (Moxibustion)
Fire Dragon is ancient heat therapy. It is completely safe and has traditionally been used to address the following conditions: indigestion, low metabolism, aversion to cold, melancholy, pain caused by stress and tension, insomnia, anxiety, fear, panic attacks, stomach distension, vertigo, hiatus hernia, benign tumors, joint pains, arthritis, bone deformation, joint inflammation, cold feeling/shivers, post-menopause syndrome and nerve inflammation (sciatic nerve, neurological disorders, etc.).

Furthermore, Fire Dragon Therapy can be effective in treating female health problems such as menstrual cramps, irregular periods, and infertility.
Gua Sha
Gua Sha is a specialized massage tool that is used with a scraping motion. It detoxifies and promotes healing. We have Gua Sha hand tools for the body and comb style tools for the scalp.
